Galanga Thai in the West Village

Fairly good noodles, nice toppings, sour pickled cabbage, fried shallots, crispy fried noodles. But the broth, although tasty, did not have the addictive Khao Soi sourness, and was lacking the key tamarind, coriander, and cumin that make the dish what it is. Perhaps a southern Thai interpretation of Khao soi. Great ambiance, all dark wood interior, fast service. Called "Chiang Mai Noodles" here.

I thought it was pretty good at galanga, but then I've never had it anywhere else. Now, I'm very curious to check out the other spots in the city and eventually at the source in Thailand :)
Thanks for turning us onto this treat!

and I loved it. In fact, I'm salivating just thinking about it. Looking for some in Williamsburg now.

Jamye, I haven't yet found any Khao Soi in Williamsburg, but I'd love to know about some. The closest I've found it in Brooklyn is Em on Smith St. and Udom in Prospect Heights, so in terms of distance, you're probably better off going to Klong or Thai Terminal in the East Village
